Working towards the regeneration of this important landmark site in Coolock
1–3 Malahide Road, Coolock, Dublin 17
About the site
The former Crown Paints building at 1–3 Malahide Road has been part of the Coolock landscape for decades. For over 50 years it was a busy hub of activity — a significant local employer that served as both the manufacturing and distribution centre for one of Ireland's best-known paint brands. At its peak it was a hive of industry, with deep roots in the local community.
Manufacturing on the site ceased in 1997, and distribution wound down in 2016, leaving the site progressively less active over time. The building has been fully vacant since 2022 and plans are now being progressed for its regeneration.
The priority is to keep the local community and elected representatives informed as that work develops. This website is the official channel for updates and will be kept current at each stage of the process.
Direct contact with local councillors, TDs, and community groups to ensure accurate information is available at every stage.
The site is zoned for sustainable mixed-use development under the Dublin City Development Plan. Plans are underway for its regeneration.
Updates will be posted here as plans progress at each stage.
What's happening now
We have appointed a local contractor to carry out clean-up and securing works at the site. Works are estimated to be complete by the end of August 2026.
A full survey of the site has been carried out to assess its current condition and inform planning for the next stages.
A proper access gate will be installed, replacing the existing temporary arrangements and providing secure, managed access to the site. As part of this work, the pylons at the front of the site will also be removed.
The office block at the front of the site has been assessed as beyond repair and will be demolished as part of these works. The remainder of the building will be secured and retained.
The remainder of the building will be secured to bring the site to a safe and presentable condition ahead of the planning and design phase.
Detailed planning work will follow in accordance with Dublin City Council's development plan and zoning requirements. We will update this page as plans develop.
